Larry Pacifico is widely regarded as one of the greatest bench pressers in powerlifting history. He bench pressed over 700 lb raw in competition and was one of the earliest lifters to popularize extremely heavy, high-volume bench specialization.
This workout was republished Aug/2000 from POWERLIFTINGUSA.
Pacifico did not operate as a commercial coach in the modern sense but informally coached and influenced many lifters through articles, seminars, and direct mentorship.
Larry Pacifico primarily competed in AAU powerlifting during the sport’s early development. Pacifico’s bench routines and philosophy were frequently published in Powerlifting USA during the late 1970s and 1980s. These articles detailed his use of high frequency, heavy partials, board presses, and overload work, often benching multiple times per week.
A lifter would use Pacifico’s routine to maximize bench press strength, particularly lockout power and triceps dominance. The program is best suited for advanced or highly resilient lifters who can tolerate high volume and heavy loads.
