GPP for Hoopers

B. Moore Performance Training

Coach
Ben Moore

General physical preparation training, commonly called GPP training, is the training or training phase used to establish the strength and endurance necessary to accomplish a sport-relevant training program. GPP training builds basic levels of strength, endurance, coordination, proficiency, and durability, allowing an athlete to train at increasingly high levels of volume and intensity.

In this training program, we build general physical preparedness to allow hoopers to have the capacity necessary to train at more intense, basketball-specific levels. For peak performance to be possible, foundational strength and endurance must be established. This program helps athletes ensure they have the skills and fitness levels necessary to carry out a more advanced training program without becoming excessively fatigued or injured. By having an increased level of overall physical fitness, athletes can expect to be more durable overall and recover faster from training or competition.

Enhanced Basketball Performance
Combining strength training with plyometrics improves overall power, speed, and agility on the court. This blend of exercises helps basketball players jump higher for rebounds/dunks, sprint faster for breaks, and change directions more quickly, giving them a competitive edge during games.

Injury Prevention
Strength training strengthens muscles, tendons, and ligaments, while plyometrics enhance joint stability and muscle elasticity. This combination not only boosts performance but also reduces the risk of common basketball injuries like ankle sprains and knee issues, keeping players healthier throughout the season.

Improved Neuromuscular Coordination
Plyometrics and Strength exercises train the nervous system to coordinate muscle movements more efficiently. This improved coordination between your brain and muscles allows for smoother, more controlled jumps, which is essential for sports that require quick, agile movements.
